A tradition for over 60 Years
Yellow Breeches Anglers and Conservation Association
A Co-Op with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission since 1961.
Yellow Breeches Anglers and Conservation Association (YBAC) receives 36,000 trout fry each year, raises them in the YBAC Alma Lee Thornton nursery until they are big and healthy, then stocks them in a 20-mile stretch of the famed Yellow Breeches Creek.
YBAC also holds events each year such as our BIG Outdoor Fishing Show, a great pig roast, and fly fishing classes.
Why Join?
Why should you join the YBAC? Think of it, trout fishing with bait or artificial– for trophy trout– in public waters all year long. If you would like to become a member of an organization that stocks over 36,000 trout each year, including many trophies over 20 inches, you should join the Yellow Breeches Anglers & Conservation Association, Inc. The trout, provided by the PA Fish & Boat Commission, are raised in the club nursery and released throughout the year in the famed Yellow Breeches Creek in Cumberland County.
As a Member of the YBAC, you will join over 1,400 other anglers and conservationists from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and many other states across the country helping to preserve and enhance one of the finest trout fisheries east of the Mississippi. Your annual dues go towards raising and stocking trout for public fishing, as well as maintaining the natural resource so precious to all of us. In addition, you will receive regular newsletters announcing stocking dates, volunteer opportunities, and club activities.
YBAC membership is open to all individuals who are interested in assisting us in our efforts, as well as reaping the benefits of those efforts. In a time when the public seems to be loosing sight of the importance of conserving our natural resources, it’s essential that we sportsmen and women work together. That’s why you should consider joining the YBAC! It’s a good move.
Feel free to visit our Alma Thornton nursery near the intersection of Routes 74 and 174 in Cumberland County. We’re just about one half mile from the Allenberry-on-the-Yellow-Breeches in the town of Boiling Springs. We look forward to seeing you there! (Button below opens a new window)
What Does Your Membership Pay For?
This is a fair question.
There are no paid positions in YBAC…everything is done by club members who volunteer their time and skills. Your $20 membership fee is used to raise trout for stocking the Yellow Breeches Creek. This fluctuates with food cost, but we spend about $30,000 per year on fish food alone. This is our major cost and would take about 1,500 memberships just to buy the food. Maintenance also costs money. Equipment needs to be maintained and broken equipment needs to be replaced from time to time. Unexpected expenses pop up from time to time – like the damage from the 2018 flood. In a nutshell, your membership will pay for the cost to raise about 20 trout, and they are nice trout, too! …larger and more colorful than what the PA Fish commission can raise.

About Us
The Yellow Breeches Anglers & Conservation Association, Inc. was founded in 1961 by a group of dedicated trout fisherman and conservationists. YBAC is part of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission's Cooperative Nursery Program. The Commission provides the club with fingerling trout to be raised and stocked in the Yellow Breeches Creek as a supplement to the Commission's stocking. The area stocked with club trout covers over 20 miles of stream open to public fishing, as well as the Catch and Release special regulations section, and Children's Lake in Boiling Springs, PA. Stocking in the Yellow Breeches begins two miles above Rte. 34 and continues downstream to the area known as Williams Grove. Stocking dates are scheduled in a manner which provide excellent opportunities for trout fishing to the public all year long. Float stocking is generally the rule, and is done at 28 stops along the stream. In addition, we sponsor five youth fishing derbies each year, one of which is our Special Needs Fishing Derby. General membership meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday each month at 7:00pm at the nursery (437 Stought Rd, Carlisle, PA 17015). The Directors Meeting is held the 1st Tuesday of each month at 8:00pm at the nursery (except December). All members are welcome to attend any meetings. YBAC membership is open to all individuals who are interested in assisting us in our efforts, as well as reaping the benefits of those efforts.
